Portable Contacts API Summit
The last couple of days have been good for the Portable Contacts API. Last night Six Apart hosted a hackfest in their offices in San Francisco as a way to get developers together to work on various tools and implementations for PoCo. About 20 people showed up and various projects were worked on including Ruby consumers and producers, hcard/vcard translation to Portable Contacts and more.
Today various people from the previous evening as well as some who did not attend the hackfest showed up at the MySpace offices in SF and we all went through the draft specification providing feedback. Joseph has done a good job at creating a specification that is clear, reuses existing specifications and provides a fairly low barrier to entry for companies wishing to implement it. All of this good stuff since we really want chi.mp owners to be able to pull out their contact data along with all of their other data, and the Portable Contacts API will provide a good way to do it.
As we get closer to releasing the implementation for chi.mp we’ll keep everyone updated and hopefully get some good feedback along the way.
