Organizing Your Digital Life

My personal quest for digital organization never ends.  The circa 1970 steel file cabinet in the corner of my office slowly empties, as my computer desktop and hard drives fill.  My stuff is everywhere.

This is an aspiration of chi.mp - to simplify your digital life.  By collecting and organizing contacts, activity streams, and RSS or atom feeds, chi.mp does provide some personal order within the chaos of the world wide web.  Plus, you can use your .mp site to login on any OpenID enabled site.

So, what other tools do I use?

I keep all of my music and photos on one hard drive.  All of my files are backed up to another hard drive.  Then, on what I wish was a more regular basis, I upload important files and multimedia to LiveDrive, an online backup service.  My passwords, at one time in a spreadsheet, are now encrypted through LastPass.  I entrust my financial history to Mint and Billeo.  For social content outside of my streams on my chi.mp site, I have tried both coComment and BackType.  My bookmarks are with Delicious.

This does not include three different calendars, four email addresses, and the posts I save in my reader.  A lot of stuff.  My challenge is developing and sticking with a routine.

There are plenty of cheap and free tools out there.  Someday it will be easier and more automated.

What do you recommend?

Duplicate && backup your data for each web2.0 service you’re into (remeber Ma.Gnolia or Zooomr to say a couple’ names ???)

Also DropBox, instead of LiveDrive, is worth a try!

Grazie, Nicola. Yes, there is a lot we forget to back up. I have heard great things about DropBox as well.

Uff … my friend Nezmar this time didn’t make an english translation of his work … in any case I think it should be easily translatable:
